Downtown Day

UC Santa Cruz and the Downtown Association are partnering to help students returning to campus or arriving for the first time post-pandemic connect with the Santa Cruz community and check out the many small businesses in the vibrant and eclectic downtown Santa Cruz area.

Downtown Day
Friday, September 24, 2021
Information Kiosk in Downtown Santa Cruz, Pacific Ave.

Downtown Day will be an afternoon full of activities to welcome students to their new home. They can discover (or rediscover!) all of the small businesses, including Penny Ice Cream, Snap Taco, 11th Hour Coffee, Abbott Square, and more; get to know the streets of downtown, and watch performances by talented student clubs including Sabrosura Latin Dance Troupe and Cloud 9 A Capella. At the end of the afternoon, Santa Cruz Cinema will host a free movie for students (the Jordan Peele horror film Us, which is set in Santa Cruz).

Scavenger Hunt: 14 pm
Student Performances: 22:30 and 33:30 pm
Free Movie: 4:15 pm
*Bring your student ID, clearance badge, and mask*

The Santa Cruz community is welcome to participate, get UCSC swag and a downtown map at the information kiosk, and watch the student performances.

How to get there
From campus, take any blue Santa Cruz Metro bus (#'s 15, 18, 19, 20), free with your student ID, to the last stop at the Metro Center. Walk one block up Pacific Ave. to the Information Kiosk (near Pizza My Heart).
