Lunch and Learn @ the Silicon Valley Campus

UC Santa Cruz is serving the Silicon Valley in big ways!  We have recently opened our new Silicon Valley Campus in Santa Clara which helps serve residents and students throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo county as well as broadening our research partnerships with many area companies and businesses.

As part of our expanding role in the Silicon Valley we would also like to advance our dialogue with you: the elected officials, staff, and community leaders of the region!

The events are specifically targeted to the region’s local, state, and federal elected officials, their staff, and key community leaders.  Each event includes a talk from a distinguished faculty member about important policy research. These events are also helpful for us to learn from you about the needs of the area and develop future collaborations.

We will be holding our first Lunch and Learn event on Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, at our UC Santa Cruz Silicon Valley Campus, 3175 Bowers Ave, Santa Clara.

Our “Lunch and Learn” speaker will be Professor Chris Benner.  Dr. Benner is a Professor of Environmental Studies and Sociology at UC Santa Cruz and the Executive Director of the Everett Program.  Prof. Benner will discuss his recent book, co-authored with Dr. Manuel Pastor, called Equity, Growth, and Community: What the Nation Can Learn from America’s Metro Areas.  Dr. Benner will talk about their key findings that the more a community develops and shares diverse ideas and cultures, the better it can cooperate and collaborate. Ultimately, the more equal an area is, the more an economy expands.

The program is free and lunch will be provided, but we ask that you RSVP at your earliest convenience to snevare1@ucsc.edu (stipulate if you prefer a vegetarian/vegan meal.)
