Associate Director, Federal Relations

We're hiring an Associate Director, Federal Relations! This is a career, 100% time appointment eligible for full university benefits:

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Government & Community Relations, the Associate Director of Federal Relations designs effective advocacy strategies that engage both the campus and third party, external partners.  

Having wide-ranging experience, the Associate Director for Federal Relations administers, oversees, and performs work involved in establishing and maintaining the highest level relationships between the institution and its many constituents including government and general public and various other relevant public or interest groups, which may include internal, external, domestic, and foreign audiences
 
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Government and Community Relations, and in close cooperation with the Vice Chancellor of Research and senior campus leadership, the Associate Director of Federal Relations is responsible for developing and executing the University of California Santa Cruz's federal affairs strategy, including advocating for university priorities affecting public higher education and the university research enterprise, developing and managing university relationships with federal elected officials, congressional staff, federal agency personnel, Congressional Committees and Caucuses, business and industry leadership, higher education associations, and professional societies for the purposes of generating support for UC Santa Cruz's federal priorities and initiatives.  The Associate Director is also responsible for advising and informing university officials, senior leadership, and faculty on federal activities, policies regulations, and funding opportunities; identifying and developing opportunities for faculty to participate in federal policy discussions and development; fostering strong relations with both legislative and executive branch officials at the federal level; assisting with strategic development and planning; and interacting with national state and local organizations and coalitions that represent university interests and influence higher education and research policy at the national level; and helping to strengthen UC Santa Cruz’s presence and profile nationally.  Must be willing to travel.
